・About wood inlay Wood inlay is a technique of wood painting in which paintings and designs are inlaid into natural wood of various hues. There are three production techniques. 1. Carved inlay 2. Layered inlay 3. Pull-out inlay All of these are the first steps, and the more colors in the pattern, the more these steps are repeated. The techniques of advancing the sawtooth of the sewing machine in steps 2 and 3 require careful attention and high skill. The finished product is called a "seed plate," which is thinly shaved into a wood veneer shape with a special large plane, but the technique of shaving it down to an average thickness also requires meticulous care. Dozens of thin wood veneers shaved from the seed plate are called "zuku," and have been widely used to decorate the surface of small boxes. This manufacturing method is a rare technique that is unique in the world, and is currently the only place in Japan where this technique is held, in the Hakone and Odawara regions, making it a valuable traditional craft technique. Because this is a handmade product made from natural materials, the color, pattern, and size may differ from the photos and descriptions on the website.
