Traxxas was founded in 1986 and started with an idea that was a whole new concept at the time of a fully assembled hobby class R/C car. This new car has the same benefits as a hobby class kit, such as interchangeable parts, hop-ups and high quality component radio systems, but comes fully assembled in a colorful body right out of the box. Traxxas coined the term "Ready-To-Run" (RTR) to describe this new class. Fully assembled, ready to run cars appeal to entry level beginners, so a toll free customer support line was established to serve a whole new category of hobby consumers. At first, acceptance of the RTR concept was slow because traditional R/C kits were not always assembled. Once people realized that Traxxas RTRs had the same performance and quality as traditional R/C kits, only without the need for assembly, the ready to run cars became a runaway hit. Kit versions are still offered for those who want the building experience.
