Himezuru Ichimonji is a sword favored by Uesugi Kenshin, and is a work of the Fukuoka Ichimonji school in the mid-Kamakura period. Its characteristic lack of a tsuba (guard guard) is unique to the Uesugi family. The name "Himezuru" is said to come from an anecdote in which, when the sword was left in the hands of a sharpener to be polished, a princess named Tsuru appeared in a dream and asked him to cancel the polishing.
