Our competitors use standard NBR material. The reasons for using DuPont Viton material are as follows. The advantage of Viton is that compared to most other elastomers, Viton can better withstand high temperatures and at the same time retain good mechanical properties. Oil and chemical resistance is also essentially unaffected by high temperatures. Viton's compounds remain virtually indefinitely when exposed to laboratory air oven aging up to 204°C or intermittent exposure up to 316°C. Viton grades also resist degradation from a variety of chemicals and fluids, including oils, fuels, lubricants, and most mineral acids. In layman's terms, that means offering the best fluid resistance of commercial rubber. Because of its low permeability to such a wide range of substances, Viton is known to perform exceptionally well in oxygenated motor fuels. However, Viton does not stop there as it exhibits good resistance to compression, even at temperatures that make other non-fluorinated elastomers brittle. It is also particularly resistant to atmospheric oxidation, the sun, climatic conditions, fungi and mold.
