Vernier scale in inches for accurate outside diameter (OD) measurements. Ratchet stop mechanism provides uniform pressure for accurate and repeatable measurements. Baked enamel finish protects the frame and increases durability. Satin chrome finish on thimble and sleeve prevents rust and reduces glare. Carbide surfaces on the spindle and anvil provide wear resistance.
The Mitutoyo 103 Series External Micrometer features an inch-level vernier scale for accurate outside diameter (OD) measurements and a ratchet stop mechanism for uniform pressure during adjustment. The micrometer frame has a baked enamel finish for protection and durability. The vernier scales on the thimble and sleeve are graduated at 0.05 inches and have a satin chrome rust-resistant finish. The spindle and anvil have flat measuring surfaces and use carbonized tips for wear resistance. The spindle lock allows you to firmly lock the measurement position. A micrometer is a precision measuring instrument that uses a calibrated screw to measure small distances. These measurements are translated into large turns of the screw and can be read off a scale or dial. Micrometers are typically used in manufacturing and mechanical engineering. There are three types of micrometers: outer, inner, and depth. The outer micrometer is also called micrometer caliper and is used to measure the length, width, and outer diameter of objects. Inside micrometers are typically used to measure the inside diameter, like a hole. Depth micrometers measure the height or depth of any feature that has steps, grooves, or slots. Mitutoyo manufactures precision measurement tools, instrumentation and systems. The company was founded in Tokyo in 1934 and in 1963 formed Mitutoyo America Corporation, headquartered in Aurora, Illinois.
