This is a slightly larger sized Billiken figurine. Billiken was born in 1908 (Meiji 41). There are various theories, but Billiken appeared in a dream that American female artist Florence Pritz (E.I. The name comes from the addition of the suffix ``-ken'', which means small, to ``Billy''. It was believed that if you scratched the soles of its feet and laughed, your wishes would come true. It came to Japan in the late Meiji period. It is said that it became popular mainly in red-light districts throughout Japan as a god of harmony within the household and prosperity of business.
