Daruma Daishi, also known as the Daruma doll, is an Indian Buddhist monk also known as Daruma Soshi and Bodhi Daruma, and the founder of Chinese Zen Buddhism. The name Dharma is originally a Sanskrit word meaning "law". Bodhidharma, who was born as a prince in southern India, went to China, but was not liked by Emperor Wu at the time, so he went to Mount Shaolin Temple (it is said that Emperor Wu later regretted this very much). There is an anecdote that Bodhidharma continued to meditate facing the wall for nine years at Shaolin Temple (Menkabe). Afterwards, he took on disciples such as Keika and Dunlin, and Zen Buddhism spread throughout China. Because of the deeds and life of Daruma Daishi, Daruma is today revered as a symbol of fortitude and the fulfillment of great wishes, and has become an object of faith. This statue of Daruma Daishi is carved out of boxwood and depicts Daruma Daishi sitting in a zazen position and immersed in meditation. We use rare boxwood from the high mountains of Hubei Province, China, and it is carefully hand-finished by specialized craftsmen. Combined with the beautiful boxwood wood, the expression and appearance of Daruma Daishi are very well expressed, as if he were still alive. Available in two sizes: 8 cm and 11 cm. Please choose the size you like. Each piece comes with a square wooden base. It will be delivered in a special presentation box.
