Get ready for battles in 1/700 scale tall ships, focusing on the Golden Age of military naval battleships, circa 1770-1830, the "Carronade Age". You have plenty of options to battle with, from highly detailed plastic frigates, brigs, and 3rd Rates (available for all nations), to powerful 1st rates in highly detailed metal and resin. Utilizes a unique and innovative initiative system built around the most important element of sail-powered combat: the wind. Additional rules allow you to fight in "lines of battle". Engage shore batteries and rake your enemies with withering first broadsides, or capture ships with heroic boarding actions. Avoid them all while avoiding hazards to navigation such as fog banks, fireboats, and wrecks. The rules allow you to field a fleet made up of ships ranging from the tiniest gunboats to true giants, mighty 1st rate warships. Play on any 4' x 3' table, or where floor space is no object. Each ship in Black Seas comes with a ship card detailing its speed, weapons and other key ratings to help you strategically plan for advantage. Build it, paint it and play! Watching your model build and paint come to life is almost as much fun as the game itself. Paints and glue not included.
Product Introduction Orient was an ocean class ship. These were a series of 118-gun three-deck ships of the French Navy line, designed by engineer Jacques-Noël Sané. Launched on 20 July 1791, she was originally named Dauphin Royal, but entering service during a period of political upheaval, she was soon renamed. As a tribute to the political movement, she was called Sans-Culotte. She retained this name for three years before it also became contentious. Battle of Genoa (14 March 1795): Before receiving her final name, Sans-Culotte served as flagship for Martin de Bourbon at the Battle of Genoa, serving as a rear seat in the engagement. Though she exchanged fire with British third-rate vessels she lost contact with the fleet at nightfall, taking no more part in the action. The French fleet broke away from its pursuers in mid-afternoon the following day, although it lost two ships, and Sans-Culotte again joined it. So the engagement ended in a minor British victory. The French Objective was to reestablish some control of the sea to the South of France after the British capture and subsequent burning of the French Mediterranean fleet 18 months before the French "counter-revolution" in May 1775, rousing the ship's final, most famous, name to be renamed Orient. Invasion of Egypt: In 1798, Orient was appointed flagship for the invasion of Egypt, part of Napoleon's wider Mediterranean campaign. Under the command of Admiral Blair, Orient carried the chiefs of the Armée d'Egypt, including General Bonaparte. The fleet evaded the British blockade and captured Malta before landing troops in Egypt. The fleet then anchored in Aboukir Bay, east of Alexandria. Battle of the Nile: On the afternoon of August 1, a British fleet under the command of Admiral Horatio Nelson discovered the French fleet after two months of hunting. In the early evening mere hours after first spotting the French he attacked, split his fleet into two divisions. One passed between the anchored fleet and the shore while the other engaged from seawards; Enraping the French ships in a devastating Crossfire. In return, however, he sustained serious damage and HMS Bellerophon was killed; nearly cut in two, he was struck by a shell. At about 9 pm, the British observed a fire on board Orient and capitalized on this by pouring fire power in the strined vessel. This succeeded in spreading the flames throughout the ship. About an hour later, the fire reached the on-board Magazines, detonating the ship in an explosion so violent that night briefly turned into day. Falling debris spread over a wide area and set several ships on fire.
