In the game, participants collect and place photo tiles to create a shared image of a living coral reef. Each player's personal and hidden interests shape the map according to their goals. Some create challenges and difficulties for players, while others create new opportunities. While matching species and completing missions, each player navigates their sea turtle towards the waterline and progresses to victory. The abstract gameplay feels like a combination of dominoes and chess. Coral Reef - Deluxe Edition features the same rulebook with improved editing. All game components have been replaced with better shapes/materials.
