Fourth installment of The Ideal Series: The Ideal Series celebrates the art of legendary horse artist Orren Mixer and his famous "ideal" horse breed paintings. Mixer's painting "The Appaloosa" was commissioned by the Appaloosa Horse Club and opened to the public in 1981. It is currently on display at ApHC's offices in Moscow, Idaho. This painting depicts a handsome chestnut blanket Appaloosa stallion standing watch over a herd of horses and foals in an idyllic landscape. In recognition of his work on this colorful breed, Mixer was inducted into the ApHC Hall of Fame in 1998. Traditional Series Appaloosa's Ideals Ideal Series A collection inspired by the art of Olen Mixer. With its unique look and versatility, it's not hard to fall in love with Appaloosa. The Appaloosa Horse Club (ApHC) was established in 1938 for the purpose of "preserving and improving the Appaloosa breed." It is currently an international breed registry with over 600,000 Appaloosas recorded. Orren Mixer's famous painting "The Appaloosa" was commissioned by ApHC and published in 1981. A handsome chestnut blanket, the 'Appaloosa stallion', is featured prominently, and its image can still be seen in ApHC's promotional materials. Watching a herd of horses and foals in an idyllic setting, this painting spotlights the coat colors and patterns of many of the Appaloosa breeds. The original painting hangs in ApHC's offices in Moscow, Idaho. For his work with this colorful breed, Mixer was inducted into the ApHC Hall of Fame in 1998. The Ideal Series pays homage to the stunning artwork of renowned equine artist Orren Mixer (1920-2008) and his most popular subject: horses. Each hand-painted piece in this series is inspired by one of Mixer's famous "ideal" horse breed paintings. Born in Oklahoma in 1920, Orren Mixer is best known for his gorgeous artwork featuring Western landscapes, farm animals, and horses. After years working as a graphic artist and serving in the Navy he returned home to Oklahoma and built his art studio. He rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s, and his artwork graced the covers of many well-known magazines, including Western Horseman. Over the course of his career, seven horse breed associations commissioned him to paint their breed's ideal. These images are still used today and have forever cemented Mixer's place as one of history's preeminent equine artists.
