(2.4L) Manufactured for Chrysler PT Cruiser. Obtaining an optimal cylinder head-to-block seal is especially important for small exhaust engines with high compression pistons and power adders such as turbochargers, nitrous oxides, and superchargers. That's why ARP head studs are popular among major sport compact/import racers. Please know that ARP uses premium grade 8740 alloy, which is far above "aircraft" quality. Each stud is then precisely heat treated to 200,000 psi. According to the heat treatment, each stud is placed as perfectly close as possible with centerless ground. This step involves about 10 very slight cuts, resulting in a very straight piece. Note that poor quality studs are also not centered ground. The material is rolled into bar stock foam (mainly before heat treatment, when machining is easier). Note that ARP studs are manufactured to such precise tolerances that they are perfect for gaskets and cylinder heads to literally slip, something that won't happen with inferior quality head studs. ARP studs are threaded after heat treatment, resulting in approximately 1000% (10x) better fatigue strength than studs that are threaded before heat treatment. Also, please be careful. ARP offers specially cut studs for multiple engines. This step (only done on short studs) allows for a "stretch" of both studs for a more consistent clamping force and compensates for head gasket compression when the head is installed. This prevents a blown head gasket and ensures an optimal seal.
