Nichiren Saint Born in Tojo-go (now Kominato), Awa Province. Kiyosumi, worshiped the morning sun in the eastern sky, and recited the daimoku. It was here that he first established a sect of Nichiren. He then built a hermitage in Matsubagaya, Kamakura, wrote Rissho Ankokuron and presented it to the shogunate, but he was banished to Ito in Izu because he was thought to be misleading the people. He was later pardoned, but as he continued to mock the legal principles of each sect and attack the shogunate, he was once again exiled to Sado. After being pardoned, he entered Kai and lived in Mt. Minobu, where he built a Buddhist temple, worked to propagate the Lotus, and devoted his efforts to his writings to promote the doctrine. He died at the age of sixty-one, and his ashes were buried on Mt. Minobu.
