In World Wonders, players take on the role of one of the great leaders of ancient times, aiming to prosper their city-state. In each round, players use gold to build buildings that develop the city's economy. There are five types of buildings, each providing resources and helping your city evolve from just a settlement to the largest city in the world. If your buildings are completely surrounded on all sides, you've created a very well-planned city block, which will earn you a lot of victory points. Placing new buildings in a city also requires many roads. Buildings can be placed far apart as long as there are adjacent roads. This will give you additional victory points if you can reach a natural resource. And just as important as buildings are monuments.
