It was powered by a 691 horsepower Hispano-Suiza 12Xbrs engine and was armed with two 7.7mm or 7.5mm machine guns. 101 D.500s were produced, and it remained the main aircraft of the French Air Force until 1939, when the Morane Saulnier M.S.406 entered service.
