The Cam Phaser is a specially designed, computer-controlled cam gear that automatically optimizes camshaft timing based on current engine rpm. Engine oil is pressure fed to the cam phaser through a series of passages in the cylinder head and camshaft. The engine computer controls a solenoid that regulates this oil flow in and out of the phaser's control chamber, delaying the cam up to 60 crank degrees.
