It is a memory of warmth. First Generation | Usaburo Okamoto Founder of Usaburo Kokeshi. Born in Shinto Village, Gunma Prefecture in 1917. After making crafts using artificial stone and metal, he began manufacturing kokeshi in 1950. Soon after, in addition to the brush painting that was mainstream at the time, he created a three-dimensional expression technique using carving and pyrography, and built the prototype of Usaburo Kokeshi that exists today. He worked hard on research to prevent wood from cracking, and succeeded in incorporating wood that was considered unsuitable for processing into kokeshi one after another. Usaburo's masterpiece \"Kantsubaki\" (Winter Camellia), featuring his favorite camellia flowers on beautifully grained zelkova wood, was honored to be purchased by Emperor Showa.
